Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the week of April 19-25, 2015, to be National Crime Victims' Rights Week in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Center for Victims is a comprehensive and inclusive provider of services to victims of all crimes, helping survivors with assistance including a 24-hour crisis hotline which connects people in need of services with counseling and information on victims rights, legal support; and,

WHEREAS, The Center for Victims provides special services to victims of domestic violence, like emergency housing, transitional housing, assistance in obtaining a Protection From Abuse Order, and children's advocacy and counseling; and,

WHEREAS, The Center for Victims advocates for meaningful changes in the justice, healthcare, education, business, and religious communities; to ensure that these entities have the necessary tools to help victims of crime; and,

WHEREAS, National Crime Victims' Rights Week was created in 1981 as a part of an expanding initiative to provide resources for victims of crimes, and is now sponsored by the Office for Victims of Crime within the U.S. Department of Justice; and,

WHEREAS, this year's National Crime Victims' Rights Week theme is "Engaging Communities. Empowering Victims" to highlight the essential work of meeting victims where they are, providing resources to assist them in their recovery and empowering them, through the healing process, to become survivors.

WHEREAS, April is sexual assault awareness month, and The Center for Victims invites survivors and supporters to gather in Market Square for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month on Friday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where The Center for Victims will provide information about the free and confidential services available to victims of all crimes, including sexual assault; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh honors and appreciates The Center for Victims' critical work in Pittsburgh and across the region; and,
