Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the lasting contributions Ray Werner has made as an advertiser, cultural advocate, musician, playwright, and community leader; and, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the City Council of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 17, 2015, "Ray Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Ray Werner is a treasure of Pittsburgh who has devoted his creative power to enriching Pittsburgh's vibrant community spirit through business, music, stage, film, bread ovens, and many other cultural contributions; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ray is a self-described "Writer, baker, music maker, filmmaker, producer, playwright, marketing, branding professional, idea digger," and a cultural champion for the City of Pittsburgh and the State of Pennsylvania"; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ray has participated and continues to participate in a number of community organizations, including the Dramatists' Guild, Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theater, St. Bede Parish, and many, many others; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ray has been a key supporter of Calliope, Pittsburgh's Folk Music Society, served on the Board of Calliope from 2001 to 2008, as Vice President from 2003 to 2005, and Board President from 2005 to 2007, and still uses his considerable creative drive to aid Calliope in copywriting and planning significant cultural events; and,
 
WHEREAS, Calliope wishes to recognize Ray's crucial contributions to folk music and cultural heritage in Pittsburgh, and celebrate Ray's status as a Pittsburgh Renaissance man and local community leader.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the lasting contributions Ray Werner has made as an advertiser, cultural advocate, musician, playwright, and community leader; and,
 
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the City Council of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 17, 2015, "Ray Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
