WHEREAS, A presidential proclamation in 1983 declared April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and, since then, the month of April has been used to recognize the importance of strengthening families through a joint effort by individuals and organizations in every community; and,
WHEREAS, the Child Advocacy Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh helps to protect children and promote healthy families through assessment of child maltreatment, medical and social care for vulnerable children, and by working in collaboration with child protection professionals and being the voices for children who cannot advocate for themselves; and,
WHEREAS, at the Child Advocacy Center, a team of forensic specialists interviews close to 600 sexually abused children every year and a team of physicians, social workers and therapists evaluate hundreds of children admitted to Children's Hospital with injuries due to physical abuse or neglect; and,
WHEREAS, the Child Advocacy Center will be holding its 10th Annual Pittsburgh Conference on Maltreatment Thursday through Friday, April 23-24, 2015 with Keynote Speakers Lori Frasier, M.D., FAAP and John Borgstedt, a child abuse survivor, advocate and author. In addition, the conference provides educational sessions and a platform for networking; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Child Advocacy Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for their tremendous work and dedication to children and families; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of April, 2015, to be "Child Abuse Prevention Month" in the City of Pittsburgh.
