Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Don Waltmire and his Pharmacy for serving the communities of the North Side for the past thirty years, and providing an unmatched level of care and customer service; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 26th, 2015 to be "Don Waltmire's Pharmacy Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Don Waltmire opened Waltmire's Pharmacy in the Shop N' Save in the Spring Garden community on Pittsburgh's North Side in 1984; and,

WHEREAS, for the past thirty years, Waltmire's Pharmacy has been a pillar of Spring Garden and the North Side, and has become well-known among its loyal customers, for providing a superior level of service that can't be found at 'big box' chain pharmacies; and,

WHEREAS, while many businesses have closed their doors and moved out of the neighborhood, Waltmire's has persevered through hard times, to ensure that the residents of Spring Garden, Troy Hill, Spring Hill and other surrounding communities had access to the highest quality pharmacy; and,

WHEREAS, when the Shop N' Save closed, Don had to find a new location for his business in 30 days, and was forced to move quickly. Don remained committed to the Spring Garden and the North Side communities and ended up settling in his new location, just a few blocks from the Shop N' Save, where the pharmacy remains today; and,

WHEREAS, on July 8, 2014, Waltmire's Pharmacy was tragically burglarized and set on fire, causing significant damage to the building. However, within 13 days of the fire, Don and his faithful employees had the business up and running again, operating out of a trailer in the pharmacy parking lot; and,

WHEREAS, on February 10, 2014, Don Waltmire and his wife Pam were joined by friends, family, neighbors, dozens of customers, and members of the local media to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of Waltmire's Pharmacy in the renovated and repaired building; and,

WHEREAS, Don Waltmire recently sold the pharmacy which will remain open under the same familiar name. Although he celebrated his last official day with the business on February 26, Don will be back every now and then to help out. We wish him many happy years of retirement; and,
