Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Cribs for Kids for their success in reducing the incidence of infant, sleep-related deaths through their successful awareness campaigns and outreach and commends and congratulates District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, Jr. for hosting the 10th Annual Women of Achievement Awards to honor the achievements of 19 women from the Pittsburgh area whose accomplishments embody the spirit of Women's History Month ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, March 5 , 2015, to be "WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Women of Achievement Awards was founded in 2002 by Bonnie DiCarlo and JoAnn R. Forrester to honor the outstanding accomplishments and raise funds for organizations that focus on the needs of women and children in Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, on March 5, 2015, the 10th Women of Achievement Awards, sponsored by Highmark, Inc. and the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, will be hosted by DA Stephen A. Zappala, Jr at the Omni William Penn Hotel. The event will launch the 'Celebration of Women's History Month" with proceeds benefitting Cribs for Kids Infant Safe Sleep Initiative in Allegheny County; and,

WHEREAS, Cribs for Kids Infant Safe Sleep Initiative was founded in 1998 in Pittsburgh by District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, Judith Bannon, Cribs for Kids Executive Director, the late Mayor Bob O'Connor and the late Commander Gwen Elliot to eliminate accidental, sleep related infant deaths due to unsafe sleep environments and to decrease infant mortality rates throughout Pennsylvania. Cribs for Kids is a national initiative with more than 550 partners throughout the United States that educates parents and caregivers about safe sleep practices and provides portable cribs for families in need; and,

WHEREAS; this year's awards will be presented to 19 prominent women selected for excellence in their fields, contributions to the betterment of their communities and outstanding accomplishments for the advancement of women. The honorees include Eileen Carlins, MSW,LSW- Cribs for Kids, the Honorable Kathy Dahlkemper, Erie County Executive, Anna Marie Petrarca Gire, Women's Independent Press, Mary Jo Guercio, EdD, CCAC, the Honorable Heather Heidelbaugh, Esq.,Leach, Tishman, Fuscaldo and Lampl, Betty Hill, PERSAD, Rebecca Lucore, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, Lois Mufuka Martin, Bethlehem Haven, Judith Mason, Dollar Bank, Traci L.
