WHEREAS, across the United States, millions of volunteers unite with a common mission to improve the lives of others; and,
WHEREAS, volunteers step out of their familiar environments to expand their horizons, strengthen their senses of civic engagement and broaden their educational, developmental and social goals; and,
WHEREAS the mission of community services is to prepare oneself to become a responsible active citizen while helping someone else,; and,
WHEREAS; in Pittsburgh, community service is a fundamental and integral part of communities, providing necessary volunteer hours to meet needs not met otherwise; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the value of volunteers and the extraordinary impact community service has on the fabric of a community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 10 , 2015, to be " COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.
