WHEREAS, Women of Color HERStory Month® is a citywide celebration of the power, legacy and achievements of women of color that has been hosted annually by New Voices Pittsburgh since 2008 from February 15 to March 15 between Black History and Women's History Months; and,
WHEREAS, ONE Billion BEEN Rising for Justice will take place on February 21st in solidarity with a global day of action to end violence against women, transwomen, genderqueer and gender non-conforming people; and,
WHEREAS, the Diversity in Yoga Brunch and Training will take place on February 22nd, the Women of Color Social Network Wine Tasting on February 26th, Women of Color Day Twitter Chat on March 1st, the Women of Color Political Luncheon on March 5th, the Yo Soy Latina play on March 14th and Chin to the Sky: The Life Sentence of Avis Lee play on March 15th; and,
WHEREAS, this celebration of the culture, legacy and achievements of women of color in the Greater Pittsburgh Region, across the country and around the world is presented by New Voices Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, New Voices Pittsburgh is building a social change movement dedicated to the health and well-being of Black women and girls through leadership development, Human Rights and Reproductive Justice; and,
WHEREAS, New Voices Pittsburgh is the only Human Rights and Reproductive Justice organization for women of color, led by women of color and about women of color in Pittsburgh and will celebrate eleven years of serving Black women and girls in Pennsylvania and Ohio through leadership development, community organizing and policy advocacy; and,
WHEREAS, Women of Color HERStory Month® celebrates the the lives and stories of women of color often untold and forgotten;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that February 15 - March 15, 2015 be declared Women of Color HERStory Month® in the City of Pittsburgh
