Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Junior Achievement for its many contributions to the economic vitality of the City of Pittsburgh and congratulates Junior Achievement for its remarkable 75 years of continuous and sustainable commitment to students and to the future of the region ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, January 27 , 2015, to be " JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs; and,

WHEREAS, over 3,500 business, community and parent volunteers in Western Pennsylvania touch the lives of more than 70,000 students, 3700 of them in Pittsburgh Public Schools, during each school year in kindergarten through grade 12 in public and private school systems in the city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and Western PA with a message of opportunity, hope and prosperity for the future. JA prepares these students to be the workers, leaders and educated consumers of the future; and,

WHEREAS, Junior Achievement volunteers in Pittsburgh have contributed over 2.5 million hours of their time since 2008, touching the lives of more than 2 million students in Pittsburgh and 2.5 million students in Western PA during the last 75 years ; and,

WHEREAS; Junior Achievement empowers young people to own their economic success, is committed to the principles of market-based economics and entrepreneurship, practices honesty, integrity and excellence and believes in the power of partnership and collaboration, and,

WHEREAS, Junior Achievement commemorated 2014 as the 75th anniversary of its founding in Pittsburgh as the very first JA operation in the country, enrolling 40 students in the original program led by the founding corporate support of Pittsburgh-based companies Westinghouse, U.S. Steel, Koppers and Gulf Oil.
