Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate St. Paul Seminary for its 50 years of forming Priests for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, January 20, 2015, to be "St. Paul Seminary Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, St Paul Seminary, founded by Bishop John Wright in the year 1965, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary; and,
 
WHEREAS, St. Paul Seminary is the college and pre-theology seminary program of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh housed on a 17 acre campus in Oakwood which is the former grounds and buildings of Saint Paul's Orphanage which operated until August of 1965; and,
 
WHEREAS, seminary follows a daily pattern of prayer, study, and community time so as to foster the atmosphere of stability and structure necessary for discernment and formation.  Seminarians in their collegiate or pre-theological studies attend classes at Duquesne University <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duquesne_University>; and,
 
WHEREAS, in addition, students at the seminary are exposed to an array of pastoral opportunities where they assist in an assigned supervised ministry for normally two to four hours a week; and,
 
WHEREAS, The Diocese of Pittsburgh currently has 36 seminarians in formation for the priesthood,  21 of whom are studying theology or undertaking pastoral experience at major seminaries across the United States and in Rome; and,
