Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 19, 2015 to be "Dolores Redwood Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Dolores Redwood, mother of Janet L. Thompson and Carl E. Redwood, and grandmother of two grandsons, is a fixture in the Pittsburgh community since she moved to the city from Lynchburg, Virginia at the age of 4 with her parents and seven siblings, recently celebrates her 100th birthday on January 19, 2015; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Redwood is a 1932 graduate of Homestead High School, where she finished with honors; going on to study Liberal Arts at the University of Pittsburgh for two years, before attending Grace Martin Business School where she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and,
 
WHEREAS, After graduation from Grace Martin Business School, she gained employment as an Executive Secretary to Earl Hord, Business Manager, and Russell T. Washington, Assistant Business Manager of the Pittsburgh Courier, which was one of the largest and most prominent Black Newspapers in the country; and,
 
WHEREAS, A birthday celebration will be held in Mrs. Redwood's honor this upcoming week to celebrate and commemorate her prolific life within the City of Pittsburgh, as she is surrounded by friends and family within the community.
