WHEREAS, Mount Washington/Duquesne Heights Athletic Association (WHAA) is a great baseball/softball organization giving the kids in District 2 every opportunity to learn, grow and have fun; and,
WHEREAS, each year the organization hosts a fall ball tournament named the “King and Queen on the Mountain” consisting of 8U Boys, 10U Girls and Boys, 12U Girls and Boys, and 14U Boys with most games played at Skookum Field with the exception of the Boys Pony league which are played at Olympia Park; and,
WHEREAS, this year, WHAA had one of their most successful fall ball tournaments to date with approximately 38 teams from across Allegheny County participating and they were the only organization to register a girls 12U fall fast pitch tournament in the city; and,
WHEREAS, the WHAA 12U Girls won “Queen of the Mountain” by defeating Burrel, a top favorite, and dominating the entire tournament up to the championship game; and,
WHEREAS, Micheala Koch, one of the 12U pitchers, pitched in three games, going the distance to secure the win in the championship game and earned her the tournament MVP; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, the 12U girls won the fastest base running competition held during the tournament weekend; and,
WHEREAS, the tournament could not have been so successful had it not been for the many volunteers who spent countless hours maintaining the fields, concession stand and the grounds in general and the coaches who spent selfless hours with their teams; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the WHAA 12U Girls team and coaches and commend the Washington Heights Athletic Association and the numerous volunteers for their successful fall ball tournament and for promoting the City of Pittsburgh and,
