Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Erica Upshaw-Givner for her commitment to helping people live independent and productive lives; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, December 15, 2014 to be “Erica Upshaw-Givner Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Erica Upshaw-Givner, LCSW and a University of Pittsburgh alumna, founded Vision Towards Peace LLC in 2012 with a mission to provide generational wellness one person at a time and a passion to serve the community in which she was raised; and,

WHEREAS, Erica works hard to provide a culturally sensitive atmosphere while encouraging healthy dialogue and overall healing; she is committed to combating the stereotypical stigma attached to African American's seeking mental health wellness; and,

WHEREAS, Erica Upshaw-Givner has had a variety of experiences in the Mental Health field which has led her to a number of collaborations including Allegheny County Pretrial Services Supervision Unit, local Greater Pittsburgh Re-Employment Transition Centers and local family health practices to address the connection between physical and mental health; and,

WHEREAS, in 2013, Vision Towards Peace has accounted for more than $24,000 in free mental health services and this year, Vision Towards Peace sponsored and hosted its first annual Passion Meets the Road Awards, which recognizes those in the mental health field who typically go unnoticed; and,

WHEREAS, in the Spring of 2014, Mrs. Upshaw-Givner was invited to join Greater Pittsburgh Business and Professional Women's Club and she is currently an active board member of the Pittsburgh African American Leadership Association, an executive member of the Association of Black Social Workers in addition to the National Association of Social Workers; and,

WHEREAS, in 2013, she won the Blazing Leader Award and has accepted the nomination for this year's Women of Excellence Award; and,
