WHEREAS, the Western PA Humane Society works to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to animals who are seeking a loving home; and,
WHEREAS, since 1874, the mission of the Western PA Humane Society has been to enhance the lives of companion animals and their families and to educate communities about the dangers of animal cruelty and how they can work to prevent it; and,
WHEREAS, the Western PA Humane Society cares for more than 10,000 animals each and every year, and never turns away a furry friend in need; and,
WHEREAS, animals being cared for by the Western PA Humane Society become adoptable only after they are healthy, and the Humane Society will continue to care for any pet in need, no matter how long it takes to find the perfect home; and,
WHEREAS, the Western PA Humane Society will be hosting an event called "Shelter Pet Sleepover" to raise awareness and funds for the continuation of the tender love and care that the Humane Society provides their animals; and,
WHEREAS, this free and fun event will take place from December 12th to the 14th and is an opportunity for anyone to come meet and play with the courageous animals under the Western PA Humane Society's care.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society for the work they have done in bringing happiness to the four-legged friends of our communities and the families they've found; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 12th, 2014 to be the "Shelter Pet Sleepover Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
