Body
WHEREAS, during the holiday season many Americans join with friends and family to celebrate enduring traditions; and,

WHEREAS, for too many families these celebrations are darkened by the absence of loved ones taken too soon in traffic crashes involving drugs or alcohol, or caused by other types of distracted driving; and,

WHEREAS, impaired drivers are involved in nearly one-third of all deaths from motor vehicle crashes in the United States, tragically taking many lives each day; and,

WHEREAS, in their commitment to raising awareness of the tragedies caused by drunken, impaired, and distracted driving, and in continually advocating for victims' rights, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has been instrumental in designating the month of December as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month; and,

WHEREAS, this designation is especially appropriate as the month of December is one of the busiest on the nation's roadways, and is also a particularly deadly time due to the high number of impaired drivers on the roads;
