Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Pittsburgh Polar Plunge for its outstanding work in giving individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and foster unique friendships and memories that extend well beyond the playing field; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 6, 2014 to be “Pittsburgh Polar Plunge Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Polar Bear Plunge is a benefit for Special Olympics athletes and teams; and,
 
WHEREAS, donations from the Pittsburgh Plunge and the seven other plunges across the state will support the 20,000 Special Olympics Athletes across Pennsylvania; and,
 
WHEREAS, participating individuals and teams, alongside Special Olympics athletes, will take a bone-chilling plunge into the Ohio River on Pittsburgh's North Shore on December 6, 2014; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to taking the Plunge, participants can enjoy free food and activities for all ages in Plunge Town outside of Heinz Field; and,
 
WHEREAS, for the first time, the Pittsburgh Plunge will be streaming footage of the event so that participants' family and friends can watch them take the Plunge from anywhere.
