Resolution entitled "Resolution calling on the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Panel on Early Education to create a subcommittee to discuss Child Care in the City of Pittsburgh.
Body
WHEREAS, families rely on a patchwork of child care services to meet their work and family needs, and

WHEREAS, recognizing these struggles, the Women of Council have formed a caucus to address this and other concerns related to children and families, and

WHEREAS, child care facilities seek to build a better relationship with City of Pittsburgh officials to improve their business practices and the quality of care, and

WHEREAS, the Women of Council seek to make every City department, bureau, and agency more responsive to child care facilities and families across the City of Pittsburgh, and

WHEREAS, nationwide, 32.7 Million children participate in a regular child care arrangement outside the home while parents work, and

WHEREAS, in the City of Pittsburgh 65 percent of children under the age of five have all available parents working.

Therefore be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

The Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby calls upon the Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh to appoint a subcommittee of the Blue Ribbon Panel on Early Education to specifically discuss Child Care Provision in the City of Pittsburgh.

a) The subcommittee shall consist of the following members of the Blue Ribbon Panel:

? Child Care Providers
? Members of the Blue Ribbon Panel directly related to child care quality
? Representative from the Mayor's Office
? Representative from Pittsburgh City Council


b) The subcommittee shall meet at least twice with the following officials to discuss the challenges and needs of child care facilities existing in City neighborhoods, and shall continue to meet with officials on an as-needed basis:

? Director of Operations
? Director of Public Safety
? Director of City Planning
? Director of Public Works
? Oth...
