Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby both recognizes and is ever-grateful for the groundbreaking community-building work that Angel's Place has done for young parents in the Pittsburgh area over the past three decades, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council hereby declares Tuesday, October 28, 2014, “Angel's Place Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Angel's Place, Incorporated was founded in 1984 by Mary Winter, to provide single parents who are low-income, full-time students with the opportunity to complete their education, and;

WHEREAS, Two-thirds of teen mothers who keep their babies will never finish high school, and;

WHEREAS, parents-students of Angel's Place have access to individual support, education counseling, career planning, job placement and parenting development, and;

WHEREAS, Angel's Place creates lasting community change by providing a supportive environment to young single parents so that they may secure satisfying employment, establish careers and become self-sufficient citizens, and;

WHEREAS, without adequate support, young, single parents are likely to become trapped in a cycle of poverty driven by low-paying jobs or financial dependency, and;

WHEREAS, through no-pay child care and family support programs that embody the best practices of education, family and child development, Angel's Place provides a loving, nurturing, safe and healthy environment that every parent and child deserves, and;

WHEREAS, Angel's place has expanded to include two centers in the City of Pittsburgh including Brookline and the North Side, as well as the Borough of Swissvale, and;

WHEREAS, the pioneering work of Angel's Place has been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and;

WHEREAS, Angel's Place provides a family-like environment to low-income, single and full-time students ages 15 and up with a child birth to age 5 years, and in 2013 Angel's Place nurtured 90 children, 28 toddlers and 36 preschoolers, and celebrated the graduation of 16 parents in 2013.
