Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 21, 2014, to be “Young Adult Ministry Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Young Adult Ministry at St. Mary of the Mount connects young adults from the Mount Washington and Duquesne Heights areas on Monday evenings for the Word and fellowship; and,
WHEREAS, in 2012, Fr. Michael Stumpf wanted to meet the needs of young adults in their 20s and 30s, who make up a significant number in his congregation, so he commissioned Holly Mohr, Director of Religious Education, to assemble a team to make his a vision a reality; and,
WHEREAS, Holly and her team, consisting of Andy Benchek, Bill Brinzer, Marguerite Link, Alex Moore, Sarah Moore, Sarah Stevens and Toni Wilson, created a program for this core population known as the Young Adult Ministry; and,
WHEREAS, from the onset, the team's vision emphasized creating a safe environment where people could bring their questions about faith and challenges about life without fear of condemnation, knowing they are supported by people who love God; and,
HEREAS, the group fosters growth and community through Holy Scripture, service and fellowship through informal Scripture study held Monday evenings; community service at Gwen's Girls in the North Side to help beautify the space, sort donations, or interact with the girls on site once a month; and a once a month fellowship brunch at Shiloh Grill in Mt. Washington; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, the group hosts a variety of other events combining prayer and fellowship such as their “Young Adult Holy Thursday Church Tour and annual cookouts currently reaching up to 40 young adults and growing not only in numbers but vision; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Young Adult Ministry at St. Mary of the Mount for creating an atmosphere where young adults can meet and reflect on how the Word challenges and encourages our lives; and,
