WHEREAS, Father David Taylor was ordained as a priest in the Roman Catholic for the Diocese of Pittsburgh on May 4, 1974. He attended Catholic Theological Union in Chicago where he was mentored by Father George Clements, a renowned African American priest. Since 1992, Father Taylor has served as the pastor of St. Charles Lwanga Parish and is the spiritual leader for the parish's school, Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Academy in the East End of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Father Taylor serves the Diocese of Pittsburgh in many capacities, particularly within the Black Catholic Apostolate. He has worked closely with the former Diocesan Office for Black Catholic Ministries and continues in that same capacity with the Office for Cultural Diversity and Persons with Disabilities. He has been a member of the Diocesan National Black Catholic Congress leadership Team since its inception in 1988. Father Taylor also serves as the chaplain for the local St. Peter Claver Father Augustus Tolton Court #277 Ladies Auxiliary; and,
WHEREAS, Father Taylor is known for his advocacy and support for Catholic schools and the education of African Americans. He serves on many committees, boards and councils that focus on issues pertinent to the Black community and the Catholic Church, especially those in the East End of Pittsburgh. Father Taylor has also been an adjunct instructor in the Spiritan Program at Duquesne University; and,
WHEREAS; On October 19, 2014, St.Charles Lwanga Parish will celebrate Father Taylors' 40 outstanding service and commitment to the Catholic Diocese and the Homewood community. His support, love, respect and compassion for the residents in this region are evident by his consistent and compelling advocacy, hospitality and generosity; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and honor Father Taylor for his 40 years of priesthood and being a blessing to the Church and the community that he serves; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 14, 2014, to be "Father David Taylor Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
