Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of October, 2014 to be LGBT History Month in the City of Pittsburgh, and do recognize the role that the City's LGBT residents have played in enriching the culture and history of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the month of October, 1995 was first recognized as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month by the Governors of several states and Mayors of several cities in order to provide education about, and recognition of the contributions of gay and lesbian citizens throughout our Nation's history; and,
 
WHEREAS, LGBT History Month is included among national cultural group month celebrations by the Federal government of the United States; and,
 
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh contains many LGBT citizens, who own businesses within the city, and who contribute to our community's rich history through the arts, education, science, politics, faith, health care, public service, and all other walks of life; and,
 
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh's commitment to inclusiveness and mutual respect dictates that all people, young or old, should feel safe to live and to learn without the fear of harassment, and all individuals, families and seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and respect; and,
 
WHEREAS, a number of groups in Pittsburgh work to promote understanding, acceptance, and equality for LGBT individuals, including the Gay and Lesbian Community Center, the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh, the PERSAD Center, New Voices Pittsburgh and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, among others; and,
