WHEREAS, the Garden Club of Allegheny County is a 160 member dedicated volunteer organization that promotes horticulture, environmental conservation, and historical preservation in western PA; and,
WHEREAS, the Garden Club's innovative and industrious civic planning and planting initiatives have transformed corners of countless Pittsburgh communities; and,
WHEREAS, the Garden Club has been a source of pride, spirit, vision, and creativity for our region; and,
WHEREAS, this month, the Garden Club will be celebrating its centennial year of educating western PA about the local environment; and,
WHEREAS, Maureen Young, the current president of the Garden Club, expertly leads their entire volunteer corps in enhancement projects throughout the greater Pittsburgh community.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Garden Club of Allegheny County for their unwavering devotion to the promotion of the City of Pittsburgh's natural beauty and historical preservation; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 14, 2014 to be "Garden Club of Allegheny County Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
