Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, September 28 , 2014, to be “ ROBERTA WEISBERG AND CHARLES SPEIGEL DAY ” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Fashion Week, created by actress, model and spokesperson, Myoshi Anderson, is a 7 day cultural and social event of fashion shows and fashion related events designed to highlight fall fashions and accessories at local boutiques specialty stores, department stores and consignment and off-price stores. It was created to embrace the breadth of fashion available in Pittsburgh and has set a new standard of high quality, New York style runway shows with VIP seating, credentialed media access and upscale promotions ; and,
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Fashion Week also features a Pittsburgh Fashion Hall of Fame which inducts honorees based upon their unique, outstanding and long term contribution to fashion, style and beauty in Southwestern Pennsylvania. This year, there will be 6 honorees, two of whom have retail establishments in the 3rd, 5th and 8th Council Districts, who will be honored at a luncheon at the Omni William Penn Hotel on September 28, 2014; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Pittsburgh and educated at Minadeo, Allderdice HS and the University of Pittsburgh, Roberta Weisberg began her career by teaching herself American handcrafts, scrimshaw, beadwork and leather clothing design, marketing her work at the 3Rivers and Shadyside Arts Festival and the Fair in the Park. Opening her first store in 1980 with 3 other female artists called The Artisans on East Carson Street, she grew her customer base and business and opened Breakaway on the South Side. In 1991, her second store, Roberta Weisberg Leathers, opened on Walnut Street. After closing Breakway in 2004, she opened her second Roberta Weisberg Leathers in the South Side Works. Co-founder of the Pittsburgh Fashion Consortium, Roberta was named Independent Retailer of the Year in 1997 and celebrates 35 successful years in the fashion industry; and,
 
      WHEREAS; Charles Spiegel was born and raised in Pittsburgh, attended Pittsburgh Public Schools and opened his first store, Charles Spiegel for Men ,in 1981 in the Monroeville Mall. Moving to Squirrel Hill after 11 successful years there, Charles opened his second store, Charles Spiegel for Men and The Garage in June 1992 on Forbes Avenue promptly became Pittsburgh's premier men's clothing store and anchoring the Squirrel Hill Business District. Charles was President of the Monroeville Mall Merchants Association at the height of its success and is currently President of the Squirrel Hill Business and Professional Association . Honored with the industry's Uptown Downtown Award as one of the 10 Best Stores in America in 2012, Charles Spiegel celebrates 33 years in the fashion industry; and,
 
      NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Pittsburgh Fashion Week for its extraordinary efforts to elevate, highlight and promote the fashion industry in Pittsburgh and congratulates Roberta Weisberg and Charles Spiegel for their respective inductions into the Pittsburgh Fashion Hall of Fame ; and,
