Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 6 , 2014, to be “PITTSBURGH AVIATION ANIMAL RESCUE TEAM DAY ” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team is a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect the welfare of animals by providing transportation for at-risk dogs. Operating out of the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin, PA, PAART networks with shelters , pet adoption services and national organizations to save dogs who might otherwise die ; and,
WHEREAS, co-founded by Brad Childs and Jonathan Plesset in 2013, the Team has rescued hundreds of dogs since their first flight in 2009 and, in addition, has coordinated and collected 100,000 pounds of food delivered to shelters and rescue centers; and,
WHEREAS, all of the efforts of the PAART team have been privately funded through the generosity of the pilots and sponsoring companies. Brad and Jonathan have used their companies, Eyetique and Shadyside Inn Suites, to raise money to help save these animals. Even though fuel and plane maintenance is expensive, PAART does not charge either party for the transportation of the animals; and,
WHEREAS, PAART feels a strong responsibility to the community, and in 2013, started a community outreach effort delivering programs to schools, churches and other groups about responsible pet ownership, proper treatment and care of animals and informs the groups about their rescues with stories and photos ; and,
WHEREAS, PAART will be having its largest fundraising event, PARTY WITH PAART, on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Allegheny County Airport featuring a DJ, an Unclaimed Luggage Auction, a Paper Airplane Toss, a live animal rescue, the Pgh Taco Truck, the Mac and Gold Truck and special guest , Alan Jennings.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Brad Childs and Jonathan Plesset and the Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team for their heroic efforts and extraordinary commitment to saving dogs and providing food and supplies to needy shelters and rescue centers ; and,
