Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, August 29, 2014, to be “Citiparks Pittsburgh BIG League Sports Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

BODY
WHEREAS,  Citiparks Pittsburgh BIG League Sports is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with its many accomplishments including the "Junior Pirates" instructional program, which is sponsored and supported by Pirate Charities, and is designed for boys and girls ages 4-7; and,
WHEREAS, Citiparks Pittsburgh BIG League Sports offers organized sports leagues, tournaments and instruction programs, currently serving approximately 3,000 youth, with the hopes of them experiencing other neighborhoods, and connecting with kids from other backgrounds and cultures; and,
WHEREAS,  during the 2014 Baseball/Softball season, BIG League  Sports had  47 travel Baseball teams, 13 Little League tournament baseball teams and 23 girls slo-pitch softball teams competing all summer to become the Mayor's Cup champions; and,
WHEREAS,  four slo-pitch softball teams made it to the finals held at PNC Park 12U Elliott and Brookline, with Brookline prevailing by a score of 9-4; and 15U Brighton Heights and Elliott with Elliott prevailing by a score of 9-4; and,
WHEREAS, two little league teams made it to the finals playing at Herschel Field;  Squirrel Hill and Brighton Heights with Squirrel Hill prevailing over Brighton Heights 4-3; and,
WHEREAS,  six baseball teams made it to the finals held at PNC Park; the Pony AA featured Brighton Heights and Carrick #1 with a final score of 10-2 Carrick; The Colt final between Brighton Heights and Greenfield gave Brighton Heights the 9-0 win; and the Super Colt final was a battle between 2 time defending champion, Elliott and Westwood/Oakwood with the final score of 5-0 victory for Westwood/Oakwood; and,  
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,  that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby applaud Citiparks Pittsburgh BIG League Sports and the following Pittsburgh neighborhood athletic organizations for the tremendous work they do and their dedication to  our youth: 14th Ward, Arlington, Banksville, Beechview, Brighton Heights, Brookline, Carrick, East End, Elliott/West End, Greenfield, Magee Rec Center, Morningside, Phillips Rec. Center,  Sheraden, South Side, Squirrel Hill, Tri Ward (Bloomfield), Urban Impact (Northside), Westwood/Oakwood, Mount Washington/Duquesne Heights; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, August 29, 2014, to be "Citiparks Pittsburgh BIG League Sports Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
