Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, August 4, 2014 to be “Gerrod Travis Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Gerrod Travis, a senior at Westinghouse High School, is currently 100% Pittsburgh Promise Ready with his academics and attendance. He has made honor roll since the 9th grade, GPA ranging from 3.000 - 3.755. He has received multiple awards and recognition including the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh National Achievers Society Scholars for 2012 and 2013, the KDKA Extra Effort Award, The Steel City Sports Award for Academics and Sports and induction to The National Honor Society; and,
WHEREAS, Gerrod placed #2 on his tennis team last year and has moved up to #1 this year. He has also lettered in tennis and received MVP for his team. He is a part of the United States Tennis Association (USTA); and,
WHEREAS, Gerrod started scouting in the 3rd grade with troop #379 at St. James AME Church, 444 Lincoln Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15206, he received many awards over the years such as; Bear, Bobcat, Webelos and Arrow of Light, which is the highest award for Cub Scouts; and,
WHEREAS, He went on to troop #59 which is located at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church 2001 Wylie Avenue Pittsburgh Pa, 15219, in the Hill District. There he ranked Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle Scout which is the highest level you can reach in scouting and earned 28 merit badges; and,
WHEREAS, He is a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in the Hill District, where he attends Sunday school, ushers, and is a member the youth choir, mime and drama ministry. He also volunteers to read and play games with children in the church daycare.
WHEREAS, He has been a youth volunteer for the American Red Cross for the past 5 years. He has volunteered with the American Red Cross Community Outreach Team to help with the Community Fairs, Safety Days, Blood Drives, Parades, PGH Marathons, and has helped members of his Boy Scout get their First Aid and Preparedness Badges.
