WHEREAS, on July 26th, Pittsburgh's Independent Women's Football League team, the Pittsburgh Passion, defeated the Houston Energy 41-7 to earn the second IWFL championship in franchise history; and,
WHEREAS, the Passion finished the 2014 season with an undefeated record of eleven wins and zero losses, marking their fourth undefeated season in the team's twelve year history; and,
WHEREAS, veteran quarterback Lisa Horton earned the 2014 IWFL Most Valuable Player award and eclipsed 10,000 passing yards in her twelve year career; and,
WHEREAS, Horton, along with running back Ciara Chic, wide receivers Amanda Haeg and Rachel Wojdowski, and tight end Kate Sullivan helped the Passion score a league-leading 278 points; and,
WHEREAS, led by defensive ends Jessica Nelko and Kim Zubovic, free safety Michelle Peters, middle linebacker Tia Montgomery, and strong safety Sharon Vazquez, the Passion held opponents to a league-leading 24 points during the entire season; and,
WHEREAS, the Passion's success transcends the gridiron as players, coaches, staff, and team owners Franco Harris and Teresa Conn have been active in the Pittsburgh community through the Passion for Life Foundation, their charity organization whose mission is to teach life lessons through sports.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Pittsburgh Passion for a successful 2014 season, their second IWFL championship and their commitment to the Pittsburgh community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim August 4th, 2014 as "Pittsburgh Passion Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
