WHEREAS, the National League of Cities (NLC) serves as a forum for leaders from the 19,000 members' cities across the United States to share ideas, collaborate on strategies, and lobby for positive change in our communities; and,
WHEREAS, the annual National League of Cities Congress of Cities and Exposition is the nation's largest educational event for city officials, bringing together more than 3,000 municipal leaders to learn from one another and craft a shared agenda for the future; and,
WHEREAS, the second largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, is undergoing an incredible transformation and has been nationally recognized as a leader in livability, sustainability, business growth, and neighborhood revitalization; and,
WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh, after re-engaging with the NLC earlier this year, has been the beneficiary of more than $300,000 in grant funding for citywide initiatives, hours of technical assistance and policy guidance, and new relationships with municipal leaders across the country; and,
WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh welcomes the opportunity to host the 2016 NLC Congress of Cities and Exposition to celebrate the positive impact NLC membership has had on our city and to welcome colleagues from the 19,000 member cities; and,
WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh, in partnership with Allegheny County, our business community, and VisitPittsburgh understand the logistical and financial responsibilities involved with hosting the Congress and Exposition and are well-prepared to showcase our city's hospitality and share the positive advances and innovations coming out of all of our 90 neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, it would be the City of Pittsburgh's great honor to host the NLC's 2016 Congress of Cities and Exposition.
