Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, July 11, 2014, to be “Kurt Shaw Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS,  Kurt Shaw  began his career in 1989 as a cartoonist and illustrator  which led him to national publications  including Cosmopolitan, The Saturday Evening Post, Woman's World and  the National Enquirer and in 1991, he became the first of three cartoonists to be published in the Esquire; and,
 
WHEREAS,  in 1992, Mr. Shaw  decided to enter into the world of fine art and opened his first studio in the West End neighborhood of Pittsburgh; and,  
 
WHEREAS,  Mr. Shaw became a certified welder and in 1997 Mr. Shaw opened a studio in Burlingame,  California where he completed several private commissions and participated in the Designer's Showcase at the Bing Crosby Estate; and,                       
 
WHEREAS,  Kurt returned to Pittsburgh in 2000 and became the Art Critic for The Pittsburgh Tribune Review, a position he still holds today; and he opened Shaw Galleries, displaying a collection of antique maps, print and art, located in the Cultural District in Downtown Pittsburgh; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Shaw is the recipient of numerous awards and is represented by galleries in Pittsburgh, Columbus and Cincinnati in addition to his commissioned work for a long list of private collectors; and,
 
WHEREAS, Shaw Galleries is holding an opening reception Friday, July 11 from 5-10 PM during The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's Summer Gallery Crawl and the exhibition will continue through July 31, 2014 in which he showcases a selection of his amazing sunrises over the City of Pittsburgh; and,  
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,  that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mr. Kurt Shaw for his extensive contribution to the arts; and,
