WHEREAS, Robert Perry-Nichols was born on May 30, 1992 and departed this life to join his heavenly Father on June 12th, 2013. He is survived by his father Mike Nichols.
WHEREAS, the life and memory of Robert-Perry Nichols is celebrated this day by Robert's family, friends, and the entire Pittsburgh community.
WHEREAS, on February 11th, 2011 Robert Perry-Nichols made history at the age of 18 as the first young African American to receive a double-lung transplant.
WHEREAS, Robert made further history as his surgery was the first of its kind to ever be performed at UPMC Presbyterian.
WHEREAS, Robert lived with sickle-cell anemia and was involved with the Childrens' Sickle Cell Foundation.
WHEREAS, Robert will be remembered for far more than his historic surgery, Robert will be remembered as a son, grandson, brother, uncle, and friend. Robert will be remembered for his enjoyment of sports, his good manners, and his love of all things Batman.
WHEREAS, Robert will be remembered for "staying strong and looking ahead to God", and his life is an example to us all.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the brilliant light that Robert's life was to those who knew him and loss of his life not only as a loss to Robert's family and friends, but as a loss to the entire Pittsburgh community.
