WHEREAS, the mission of Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh, an Orthodox Jewish Day School, is to graduate young men and women with an unlimited capacity to compete in a superior manner in any challenge they undertake, who are G-d fearing, Torah observant models of exemplary character, who love G-d, the Jewish people and the land of Israel and possess a love of learning, confidence and the ability to think critically and serve as active members and leaders of the Jewish community and society ; and,
WHEREAS, since 1947, Hillel Academy has grown to offer an exceptionally strong foundation in Judaic studies as well as a comprehensive program in English, Math, Science and Social Studies and History, scoring consistently amongst the highest in standardized tests and winning scholastic awards nationally and internationally ; and,
WHEREAS, Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh will hold its 67th year with an Annual Dinner at on June 8, 2014 at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center where they will honor Spencer Kingman with the Chantze and Donald Butler Teachers Recognition Award, honor Marcia Zlochower for her 22 years of service to the Hillel Academy family and where the late Donald Butler's life will be celebrated; and,
WHEREAS, Donald Butler was a communal titan and lifelong supporter of Jewish learning. As one of the founding members of Hillel Academy, he partnered with others to establish an institution where students could receive both an exemplary general and Judaic education. 67 years later, Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh and its thousands of alumni serve as a testament to Mr. Butler's tireless work and uncompromising vision.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh for its outstanding mission to provide a comprehensive Jewish and secular education to Jewish children and congratulates Hillel Academy for its 67 successful years ; and,
