Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 27, 2014, to be “Charlotte Hughes Day” in our most livable City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Charlotte Hughes was sworn in as a City of Pittsburgh Police Officer in 1988 and has worked the streets until 1996 at which time she was assigned to the Mobile Crime Unit to develop, evaluate, and collect fingerprints and process crime scenes for evidence; and,
 
WHEREAS, she has worked with other detectives on thousands of major crimes including helping to solve two bank robberies within a 30 minute period in November of 2000 and solving the case of the "Gum Wrapper Bandit" where a serial burglar never left fingerprints except in one instance where he mistakenly left his fingerprints on a chewing gum wrapper; and,
 
WHEREAS, during her 25 years with the Bureau, she has been Officer of the Month twice and received several letters of recognition; and,
 
WHEREAS, in 2014 Charlotte was transferred to the policies and procedures unit where she remains today awaiting her retirement on June 6; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Hughes lives with her husband Daniel and two children, Daniel age 11 and Christian age 10 in the City of Pittsburgh, but will be retiring to the state of Iowa; and,
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Charlotte Hughes for her service of over 25 years with the Pittsburgh Police Bureau; and,
