Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim May 27, 2014 as “Katie Keim Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, although she is still only a high school senior at the Ellis School, Katie Keim has set about impacting the lives of foster children both here in the City of Pittsburgh and abroad globally; and,
WHEREAS, Katie Keim founded A Dozen at a Time, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and resources for foster children and runs the day-to-day operations of the organization, including fundraising, budgeting, and strategic planning, as well as speaking at local institutions to raise awareness and support; and,
WHEREAS, Katie is in the process of researching the benefits of group foster care as opposed to individual foster care so as to better the condition of foster children in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, Katie led a group of students to the Children's Village in Israel, a home for nearly 300 abused foster children, and was able to raise money for computers, bedding, and other necessity items; and,
WHEREAS, Katie has been awarded the St. Lawrence Book Award - an award given by the Ellis School for Girls to the student who has "displayed a significant commitment to community service."
WHEREAS, Katie will be honored as part of the 2014 Class of Greek America's 40 Under 40 on May 3rd in Toronto and will be featured in an upcoming edition of Greek America Magazine.
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Katie Keim for her sustained and successful attempts at creating a better world through her non-profit organization, and for making remarkable differences in the quality and care of foster children in Pittsburgh and abroad; and,
