WHEREAS, veteran's organizations across Western Pennsylvania have always encouraged people to reflect on the reason for the Memorial Day holiday which can be accomplished by volunteering to decorate veterans' graves, make a donation to a veteran's organization or visiting a veteran's memorial to remember the sacrifices others have made for the freedoms we enjoy; and,
WHEREAS, the American Legion Langley Post 496 located in Sheraden and the VFW Post 5111, located in Duquesne Heights, honors veterans each Memorial Day; and,
WHEREAS, the American Legion Langley Post 496 decorates and honors all of the veteran graves and monuments in the Crafton Heights, Elliott, Sheraden and West End communities which is coordinated with the Pittsburgh Police Legion 710, VFW Post 86 and Scouts from various neighborhoods; and,
WHEREAS, the VFW Post 5111 honors those who paid the ultimate sacrifice with a service and a 21 gun salute at the Duquesne Incline; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and honor Veterans who have served in any capacity to protect the rights of the citizens of the United States of America and recognize the American Legion Langley Post 496 and the VFW Post 5111 for their contribution to Veterans; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, May 26, 2014, to be the"Day of Remembrance" in our most livable City of Pittsburgh.
