Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, May 17, 2014 to be “Cornelius Van Maurik Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Teutonia Männerchor has continued in the old traditions for 160 years and in addition to the Men's Chorus includes a traditional Dance Group (The Alpen Schuhplattler und Trachten Verein) a ladies chorus (Teutonia Damenchor), a children's singing group (The Kinderchor), the “66” Card League, a shooters club (the Schützenkameraden), a Pool League and a Stein Society. It has a growing membership of over 2,800 and offers membership to its Landmark clubhouse to those who are willing to “further choral singing, German cultural tradition and good fellowship”; and

WHEREAS, The Board of Directors of Teutonia Männerchor has chosen the 160th Anniversary (Jubiläum) to honor its past President, Cornelius Van Maurik for his fourteen years of service as President; and

WHEREAS, President Van Maurik was the longest serving President of Teutonia Männerchor, and with his late wife Christel, who assisted in many club activities, presided over a period of many achievements. As President, he:
· Helped to establish a sense of welcoming for the new members, many of whom were several generations removed from Germany, or had no German heritage.
· Represented the Club to the public with distinction
· Oversaw the designation of the clubhouse as a National Historic Register Building
· Established a website and a system of electronic communication for members
· Acquired property and built a parking lot
· Oversaw the 150th Anniversary Celebration which included visits by groups from Germany and the U.S, and a summer festival which was open to the public
· Grew the membership during his tenure from 1,750 to 2,500

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes and congratulates Cornelius Van Maurik for his industry, skills, and accomplishments which have sustained and enhanced Teutonia Männerchor; and
