WHEREAS, The Pittburgh Gospel Choir is a multi-age, multi-ethnic musical ensemble that performs American gospel music in the Western Pennsylvania area. It is intended to serve and cultivate a diverse choir membership and audience, and infuse both with an appreciation for gospel music. The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir concerts are designed to be uplifting, edifying, and entertaining; and,
WHEREAS, The PGC was founded in 2007 as Pittsburgh's first choral ensemble dedicated to the American gospel music tradition. Formed as a project of the River City Brass, The PGC is intended to catalyze connections among participants of all races, ethnicities and ages while acting as a conduit for the preservation of the rich history of gospel music through its performances of both traditional and new works in the genre; and,
WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir has been led since its founding by Dr. Herbert V.R.P. Jones, one of the nation's foremost figures in choral conducting and pedagogy and an expert in the intersection between theology and musical expression. A Southern transplant to Pennsylvania, Dr. Jones has cultivated a broad-based, multifaceted career as a choral conductor, educator, operatic and oratorio bass-baritone, liturgical dancer, orator and pastor, teaching and performing across the United States and Europe ; and,
WHEREAS, On Saturday, May 10, 2014, The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir will be celebrating its 7th year of singing sacred music during their Annual Spring Concert; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Dr. Herbert V.R.P. Jones and the Pittsburgh Gospel Choir for continuing the rich history of gospel music; and,

Saturday, May, 10, 2014, to be "The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
