Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 13, 2014, to be “Gerald Akrie Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Gerald Akrie has served the City of Pittsburgh for 21 years beginning his humble career as a part-time employee in Environmental Services; and,
 
WHEREAS, he became a seasonal employee with Rodent Control for two years before being hired to Animal Care and Control where he worked for 15 years as an agent then becoming the first supervisor within the department's history, serving 6 years, on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week responding to any city department needing help; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Akrie represented the City of Pittsburgh in local schools for Career Days and developed an Animal Care and Control coloring book to distribute to grade school children throughout the City of Pittsburgh; and,
 
WHEREAS, Gerald taught for the Mayor's Civic Leadership Academy for 5 years, and has done countless community meetings, always representing the City of Pittsburgh with professionalism and vast knowledge of his department; and,    
 
WHEREAS, In addition to his career with the City of Pittsburgh,  Mr. Akrie is an ordained minister pastoring Community of Grace A.M.E. Zion Church in the West End for over 7 years; and,
 
WHEREAS, Gerald is married to his lovely wife Carol and together they have 4 children; Alicia, Gerald, Danielle and Joel; and,                           
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mr. Gerald Akrie for his 21 years of service to the City of Pittsburgh; and,
