WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Greenfield is a Pre K - 8 neighborhood school drawing students from six surrounding communities with a diverse student population which helps make it a very culturally balanced school. With a strong belief that all students can learn and achieve, its goal is to prepare students for The Pittsburgh Promise beginning in kindergarten; and,
WHEREAS , the faculty of Pittsburgh Greenfield is a unique group of professionals dedicated to the development of the healthy child in ways far beyond the typical areas in which teachers are expected to perform; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Greenfield teachers perform beyond their normal roles by contributing to after school programs and sports teams, working with the parents and the PTO on community events, running an intermural program, tutoring in addition to teaching, managing assemblies such as the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert, planning and guiding a school play for the end of the year, staying late and coming early to the school, coaching extra hours and volunteering for extra programs and anything fun that would engage the Greenfield student and the Greenfield community ; and,
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Principal Eric Rosenthal, Pittsburgh Greenfield K-8 has achieved AYP in eight of the last nine years and is proud of its achievements and of its student body.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend and congratulate the faculty of Greenfield School for its extraordinary professional and personal commitment to the students and the community; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, May 12, 2014 , to be "GREENFIELD SCHOOL TEACHERS DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
