Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 29, 2014 to be “Frank J. Lucchino Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Frank J. Lucchino has served as a passionate advocate for libraries at the local, county, and national levels; becoming the first person to be named to the Board of Chair of the Carnegie Library after the library's independence from the Carnegie Museums; and,
WHEREAS, Frank J. Lucchino conceived and initiated "Knowledge Connection", a program that creates mini libraries with computers in several Allegheny County Public Housing communities; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Lucchino helped launch Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's first ever capital campaign that raised over 58 million dollars to build or renovate many library branches that had suffered from years of neglect; and,
 
WHEREAS, In recognition of Mr. Lucchino's belief that education is the best antidote to the cycle of poverty, the Frank J. Lucchino KIDS Fund was created to help support innovative programs and pilot projects in library services that seek to serve at risk youth; and,
 
WHEREAS, In addition to his services, Frank J. Lucchino has served on numerous community boards, including the Carnegie Science Center and the Heinz history Center; and,
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the important work and legacy left by Frank J. Lucchino, and congratulates him on his well-deserved retirement from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees; and,
