WHEREAS, in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month we would like to honor the Allegheny General Hospital's Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents (the Center) for their 20 years of service they have provided to more than 6,000 children and families who have experienced traumatic or stressful events in their lives, including child abuse; and,
WHEREAS, the Center was founded and is directed by Anthony P. Mannarino, Ph.D. and
Judith A. Cohen, M.D., with the goal of alleviating serious mental health problems and promoting healthy coping skills for children and their families; and,
WHEREAS, being the only one of its kind in the region, the Center has been identified as a "Model Program" by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and is considered a national leader developing and researching evidence-based, trauma-focused treatments for children and adolescents; and,
WHEREAS, in response to recent child abuse cases, Dr. Mannarino has provided both written and oral testimony about the ramifications of child abuse and steps Congress can take to better protect children; and,
WHEREAS, the Center works closely with all service systems, including outpatient, inpatient, community-based settings, schools, juvenile justice facilities, foster homes and group homes, and with child protective services agencies; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Center for Traumatic Stress for Children and Adolescents at Allegheny General Hospital for their 20 years and commend them for their tremendous work and dedication to children and families; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 29, 2014, to be "The Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
