Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby pay tribute to Mendelson Gallery's 40 year love affair with the arts, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 2, 2014, “Steve Mendelson Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, four decades have passed since Steve Mendelson opened the Mendelson Gallery; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Gallery has always been attached to the personality of founder, Steve Mendelson; and,
 
WHEREAS, intimate relationships with his artists and clients have marked Steve's 40 years as an artist, gallery owner, writer, world traveler, and art collector; and,
 
WHEREAS, early exhibitions include first American shows for Not Vital, Patrick Hughes, Emil Lukas, and many others who remain important in today's art world; and Steve has also shown and collected works by Mapplethorpe, Haring, Bourgeois, Keiffer, Vik Muniz, Warhol, Man Ray, Chamberlain, and Rauschenberg; and,
 
WHEREAS, always open and engaged in the local art scene, Steve has personally transformed his gallery into both a home and salon/gallery space in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh; and,
 
WHEREAS, countless thousands of visitors have enjoyed Steve's popular exhibits and tireless commitment and contribution to the local arts scene; and,
 
WHEREAS, themed exhibitions have included edible arts, circus performers, torch singers, fire breathers, jazz greats, and baroque performers; book signings, benefits, fund-raisers, dancers, spoken word poets, and aboriginal painters.
