Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, May 16, 2014 to be “Take Your Father to School Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, since its inception in 1999, “Take Your Father to School Day” has become an extremely successful event facilitated by the Pittsburgh Public Schools, serving as a model for the rest of the country; and,
WHEREAS, the goal of this event is to bring fathers and other significant male role models into the school building in order to establish better communications with schools and explore opportunities for volunteering and engaging men to take a proactive role in their child's education; and,
WHEREAS, in 2012, Pittsburgh Public Schools was the 2012 MAGNA Award recipient for this event, which is a national recognition program that honors school board best practices and innovative programs that advance student learning; and,
WHEREAS, Take Your Father to School Day will be celebrating its 16th annual district wide event on Friday, May 16, 2014 with this year's theme focusing on Men's Health; and
WHEREAS, each year the list of partners continues to grow, and the following organizations have offered support for this year's Take Your Father to School Day event: Men against Destruction Defending Against Drugs and Social Disorder, A+ Schools (A+ Men), Coalition for Fathering Families, Allegheny Family Network, Dads Assisting Dads, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, AIU/Fathers Collaborative Council of Western Pennsylvania, Men Alliance of the Mon-Valley, PAEYC, Early Childhood Education Program Male/Fatherhood Involvement, Initiative, Lawrenceville United, From Kids to Leaders, Hand in Hand, Inc., State Representative Ed Guiney's Office, Rodmen Men's Group, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Prince Hall Masons, and Men Ministry Mentoring Initiative/St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the important work of this program and congratulate the Pittsburgh School Board, and all of the volunteers and participants who continu...
