WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and,
WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has been honoring members of the Judiciary of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 50 years and for the last seven years has honored the memory of Judge Robert E. Dauer with an award in his name for Judicial Leadership and Excellence; and,
WHEREAS, this year's co-recipient of the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence is the Honorable Judge Ronald Castille of the Supreme Court; and,
WHEREAS, the Honorable Ronald Castille was commissioned an officer in the United States Marine Corps, and served in Vietnam as a platoon commander in the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines; and,
WHEREAS, following his medical retirement from the Marine Corps, Castille received his J.D from the University of Virginia School of Law. On January 14, 2008, Castille was sworn in as Chief Justice of Pennsylvania in 2008, where he served diligently until his retirement on March 16, 2014; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate the Honorable Ronald Castille for exemplifying qualities of an outstanding judiciary leader by embodying the core values of justice and fairness; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 to be "Judge Ronald Castille Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
