WHEREAS, The top high school hockey teams from western Pennsylvania compete for Penguins Cup championships which is run by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) with the finals administered by the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins franchise; and,
WHEREAS, Canevin's record of 20-2 during the regular season, qualified them as the #1 seed in the Penguins Cup playoffs; and,
WHEREAS, on Monday, March 17, 2014, Bishop Canevin Hockey Team captured their seventh PIHL Class AA Penguins Cup title by defeating Erie Cathedral Prep 1-0 at the Consol Energy Center; and,
WHEREAS, Sophomore forward Thomas Krivak scored the lone goal with Junior Blaine Adams credited with an assist and Senior Goalie Nikita Meskin recorded 22 saves in the shutout; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Varsity Hockey Team of Bishop Canevin High School, Head Coach Kevin Zielmanski, Assistant Coaches William Zuri, Chris Vaccaro and Kevin Hart and Team Manager Jean Adams for their dedication and hard work and congratulate them on their seventh PIHL Class AA Penguins Cup title; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, April 10, 2014, to be "Crusaders Hockey Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
