WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh is always pleased to recognize those citizens who, through dedicated and meaningful service, contribute to the good of our City and its residents ; and,
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Donald B. Green is an outstanding example of such a citizen, having served for over eleven years as the Executive Director of Christian Associates of Southwestern Pennsylvania, where he has offered exemplary service to the ministry; and,
WHEREAS, the Christian Associates of Southwestern Pennsylvania seeks to provide a unifying voice for the mission of the Gospel and the wholeness of communities. Some major projects that the agency has undertaken include chaplaincy at the Allegheny County Jail, and disaster preparedness and response; and,
WHEREAS, joining the Christian Associates of Southwestern Pennsylvania in December of 2002, Pastor Green has become a champion for community outreach by bringing diverse Christian and interreligious groups together for dialogue, mutual understanding, and to address human need; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to his distinguished work, Pastor Green has been incredibly active in his community and globally, visiting partner churches in India, leading a group of volunteers to Puerto Rico to assist with reconstruction of homes after the devastation created by Hurricane Ivan, and also led a youth and young adult work group to Madagascar; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does recognize and congratulate Pastor Green on his richly deserved retirement from, and thanks him for his tireless commitment to the ministry and dedication to the community and global change, and wishes him all the best in the future; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, March 29th, 2014, to be Dr. Donald B. Green Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
