Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 10, 2014, “Carnegie Mellon University Spring Carnival Day” in the City of Pittsburgh. WHEREAS, Carnegie Mellon University will hold its 100th annual Spring Carnival on Thursday, April 10 through Saturday, April 12, and;
WHEREAS, this year's Spring Carnival opening ceremony will include remarks by President Subra Suresh and a performance by Carnegie Mellon's Kiltie Band; and,
WHEREAS, the theme for the year is Carnival 100: Best of the Best, to celebrate the past years of amazing booths and buggy runs; and,
WHEREAS, Carnegie Mellon student organizations will design, build, and host more than 25 booths; and,
WHEREAS, student organizations will compete for a variety of booth design honors, including the Excellence in Environmental Building Practices Award to the most "green" booth based upon materials selection, waste minimization, lighting efficiency, and overall environmental stewardship and innovation; and;
      WHEREAS, the 94th annual Sweepstakes buggy races will include aerodynamic pushcarts that are designed and built by student organizations, with each buggy holding a driver who steers and maneuvers around a 4,400-foot course; and
WHEREAS, the spring carnival is planned and executed by the Spring Carnival Committee; a student organization that does the planning, carries out the work, and manages the logistics of the carnival.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby pay tribute to Carnegie Mellon University Spring Carnival's 100 years of success and celebration.
