Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Council of the City of Pittsburgh celebrates the contributions of Joseph Rogers and all members of Troop 6 to their neighborhood and the entire Pittsburgh region. WHEREAS, Joseph Samuel Rogers began his scouting career nearly 10 years ago, when he joined the Boy Scouts of America's Pack 601 as a “Bear”, later becoming a member of the Brookline neighborhood's Troop 6, the “Screamin' Eagles,” and
WHEREAS, Joe's grandmother gave him the advice to “live every day like it's the last, and take every opportunity,” and the phrase has stayed with him for many years, informing his approach to Scouting, school, and to life, and
WHEREAS, Joe took his grandmother's advice to heart by embracing many exciting travel opportunities while with the Troop 6, including trip to Camp Conner in North Carolina, Camp Heritage in Farmington, PA, and Camp Twin Echo, a nearby merit badge camp sponsored by the Great Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and
WHEREAS, in 2010 Joe embarked on what he termed his “Summer of Camping,” spending a week at the National Youth Leadership Conference and Advancement Camp at Camp Twin Echo, as well as an entry into the 2010 National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill near Bowling Green, VA, and
WHEREAS, Joe's Eagle Scout Project taught him how to fully plan and execute a large scale project and to perform a hands-on kitchen renovation, as he and the other members conducted a renovation of the kitchen at Brookline's Seton Center, cleaning, painting and replacing light fixtures, and replacing purchasing new appliances for the space, and
WHEREAS, Joe's time at Central Catholic High School is coming to a close after four wonderful school years, and he plans to attend La Salle University in the Fall to study English education with the hope of one day becoming an English teacher, and
WHEREAS, Troop 6 has bestowed upon Joe their highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award, recently presented to him during his Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony on Sunday, March 31st at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church in Brookline.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Tuesday,...
