Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby officially recognize and welcome Irish Parliament Member Dinny McGinley and Deputy Consul General Peter Ryan as they visit the City of Pittsburgh and participate in the St. Patrick's Day Parade festivities.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, first held in 1869 and occurring non-stop since 1950, is organized by the St. Patrick's Day Committee and held this year on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in downtown Pittsburgh with an expected turnout of 150,000 plus spectators who are "all Irish for the day" ; and,
 
WHEREAS, on the occasion of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Pittsburgh, the St. Patrick's Day Committee will be hosting dignitaries from Ireland, the Honorable Dinny McGinley and the Honorable Peter Ryan; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Dinny McGinley is a member of the Irish Parliament from the Fine Gael political party, representing the Donegal South-West constituency. He has held a number of positions including spokesman on Youth Affairs, the Gaeltacht, Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Defence, and Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and currently is the Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs.; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Honorable Peter Ryan is a diplomat and businessman who currently serves as Deputy Consul General of Ireland based in New York. He provides economic, political and cultural connections between Ireland and the United States.
