Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Cribs for Kids for their success in reducing the incidence of infant sleep-related deaths through their awareness campaigns and outreach, and Mary and District Attorney Steven Zappala, Jr. for hosting the 9th Annual Allegheny Health Network Celebrate & Share Women of Achievement Awards to honor the achievements of 26 women from the Pittsburgh area whose work embodies the spirit of Women's History Month; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, March 6, 2014, to be “CELEBRATE AND SHARE WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Celebrate & Share was founded in 2002 by Bonnie DiCarlo and JoAnn R. Forrester to feature the achievements of women and raise funds for organizations which focus on the needs of women and children in the Pittsburgh community ; and,

WHEREAS, on March 6, 2014, the 9th Annual Celebrate & Share Women of Achievement Awards , sponsored by Allegheny Health Network and hosted by Mary and Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, Jr., will take place at the Omni William Penn Hotel to launch the celebration of Women's History Month in Pittsburgh, and;

WHEREAS, proceeds from this event will benefit Cribs for Kids, an Infant Safe Sleep Initiative that was founded in 1998 by District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, Jr., Cribs for Kids Executive Director Judith Bannon, the late Mayor Bob O'Connor and the late Commander Gwen Elliot, to eliminate accidental, sleep-related infant deaths due to unsafe sleep environments and to decrease infant mortality rates throughout Pennsylvania. Cribs for Kids is now a national initiative with more than 450 Partner Programs throughout the United States and continues to spread their life-saving message by educating parents and caregivers about safe sleep practices and by providing portable cribs for infants in need; and,

WHEREAS, this year's distinguished gathering will honor 26 prominent Women of Achievement from the Pittsburgh region. The honorees include: Abby Bolton, Regina Broudy, Darieth Chisolm, Chris Cieslak, Rosann Cusumano Elinsky, Joann Cusumano Sciulli, Deborah Flaherty, Alma Speed Fox, Jane Grebenc, LaVerne Darnell, Dr. Karen A. Hacker, Mary Jo Harwood, Deborah W. Linhart, Charlotte E. Lott, Carol B. Mitchell, Josephine B. Moore, Carol A. Neyland, Marianne Oliver, Titina Ott, Diane M. Pearson, Donna C. Peterman, Michele Rice, Eleanor Schano, Joan Stein, Christy Uffelman and Debra R. Valentine-Gray.
