Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend; Evangelist Helen L. Pugh for her service to her local assembly; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, February 23, 2014, to be “Evangelist Helen Pugh Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Evangelist Helen Louise Pugh was the fourth oldest daughter of Clifton L. Pugh and Helen Louise Pugh. She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA where she attended Mary Jane Cowley Elementary School and Latimer Middle School. During middle she was awarded with the Daughter of American Revolution Bronze medal. She also received Outstanding Teenager of America Award during her senior year at Allegheny Senior High School; and,

WHEREAS, Evangelist Helen Pugh received the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the age of 14. As a young woman she became very ill and had to have major surgery. Before her surgery; she promised that if the Lord would awaken her she would serve Him for the rest of her life. After she was released from the hospital, she visited the Northside Independent Church of God, where Bishop E. M. Thorpe and Evangelist Lola Thorpe were the Pastors. The Sunday she came to church Bishop Thorpe preached a powerful word from God, and opened her heart to the Lord and asked Him to come in and save her; and,

WHEREAS, In May 2011, Evangelist Pugh was blessed to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Geneva College. Currently, Evangelist Pugh is working for UPS where she has received 3 Gold K.O.R. E awards for oral presentations during regional meetings at UPS; and,

WHEREAS, in November 1970 the Lord called Evangelist Pugh to preach His gospel. Currently, she serves as the Assistant Pastor of the Northside Institutional Church where she is the Chairwoman of the Ministers board, and also works with the Sunday school and outreach departments. Evangelist Pugh is committed to serve wherever her leaders deem necessary; and,

WHEREAS, This year the Northside Institutional Church will celebrate Evangelist Helen Pugh's birthday by expressing their gratitude for her dedication and service to the ministry. Pastor Angela Tooks of Mt. Zion Baptist Church will be the special guest; and,
