WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Banksville Elementary School, located at 1001 Carnahan Road, is hosting their first annual Healthy Kids Expo on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM; and,
WHEREAS, statistics show that over the past three decades, obesity among children have tripled and today approximately one out of every three children in the U. S. is overweight or obese, and are at high risk of becoming overweight adolescents and adults, placing them at risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes later in life and are also more prone to develop low self-esteem; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Banksville, a K-5 elementary school, is promoting healthy lifestyle habits such as healthy eating and physical activity which can lower the risk of obesity and developmental related issues by organizing a Healthy Kids Expo; and,
WHEREAS, the Healthy Kids Expo will feature events to promote "Energy In" such as healthy food samples, a smoothie station, cookbooks and information booths; and events to promote "Energy Out" such as Hip Hop Dance, Martial Arts, Kids Yoga, ballroom dance, electronic exercise, dek hockey, baseball and softball stations and a cardio obstacle course; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Pittsburgh Banksville Elementary School, the Banksville PTA and the many volunteers and supporters for encouraging a healthy lifestyle in our children; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, February 26, 2014, to be " Pittsburgh Banksville Healthy Kids Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
